The Oasis Initiative is an integrated program run by Fuertza, dedicated to leveraging the existing skill set of vernacular construction among local women to create lasting impact in underserved communities across Ghana. We believe in transforming these areas through sustainable infrastructure development — with women leading the change.
The Oasis Initiative empowers marginalized communities by developing essential infrastructure such as libraries and community spaces through women-led construction projects. It recognizes women as key custodians of the environment and powerful agents of community development.
More than just an infrastructural solution, the Oasis Initiative is a transformative model of social architecture that merges women-led innovation with educational justice.
As part of its foundational goals, Fuertza is committed to ending the practice of holding school classes under trees in rural and underserved communities, particularly in Northern Ghana and the Upper West Region.
Establish community libraries and inclusive learning spaces to significantly increase access to educational resources and reduce reliance on open-air "schools under trees."
Empower hundreds of women through hands-on construction initiatives and structured vocational training, fostering leadership and economic independence.
Create a replicable model for community-led infrastructure that can scale to other underserved regions across Ghana and beyond.
Improve community well-being and social cohesion by transforming neglected spaces into vibrant public assets that drive positive social and economic outcomes.
The inspiration and core concepts for this project emerged from FUERTZA's Oasis Initiative — a mission-driven commitment to empower local communities. In the vibrant Wa District, this debut project focuses on building a resource center designed to enhance educational opportunities for local students.
The initiative aligns with the district’s educational priorities, offering accessible, impactful resources for the broader community and promoting long-term growth and development. It serves both the students of Wa Central School and the surrounding community — embodying the spirit of inclusive engagement and sustainable progress.
